A calmer week with a few items worth planning around: Anthropic is giving outside evaluators deeper access to its systems, Odoo has published a recap of the Odoo 20 launch, and WordPress's block editor gets React 19 by default. Here is what matters for business owners.

Anthropic gives independent evaluators deeper access

On October 15, Anthropic described how it is expanding third-party assessment of its models. A team from the non-profit METR now gets "employee-like access" to Anthropic's systems and will publish its own risk assessments; Anthropic cannot veto publication but may require redaction of defined categories such as customer data, privileged information and model architecture. SecureBio is reviewing the chemical and biological weapons chapter of Anthropic's August 2026 Risk Report, and Anthropic says it is working toward a broader partnership with Accenture and Faculty that includes red-teaming models and testing safeguards. Anthropic also describes a three-tier access model that sets how much access evaluators get and whether they may publish freely. What this means for you: this is not a product release, but independent safety reports are useful input if you have to document why you chose a particular AI vendor. Beyond that, we found no further AI announcement this week that we could confirm on a primary source page, so we are not padding this section.

Odoo 20 launch recap from Odoo Experience 2026

We covered the Odoo 20 AI agents and MCP support on October 9; new this week is Odoo's own recap of the launch event. In its Q3 update, published October 15, Odoo says Odoo Experience 2026 (September 24–26, Brussels Expo) centred on the launch of Odoo 20 and drew more than 45,000 attendees from over 150 countries. Live demos showed AI voice control and AI agents that create and update records inside Odoo. The post also mentions an improved offline mode, redesigned website icons and a new MCP server that lets external AI tools connect directly to the Odoo database. What this means for you: if you plan an Odoo 20 upgrade, the MCP server and AI agents are worth evaluating, including who may access which data. Source: Odoo – Odoo stays on track: Q3 update.

Odoo opens a Munich office

The same post says Odoo is starting a presence in Munich, initially in a co-working space, with the long-term goal of a permanent office serving partners and customers in southern Germany, Austria and Switzerland. What this means for you: DACH customers and partners may get closer local contact over time. Source: Odoo – Q3 update.

WordPress

Gutenberg 24.2: React 19 by default, notes in the margin

Gutenberg 24.2 was released on October 14. Sites now load React 19 unless an incompatible theme or plugin is active; it can be switched off under Gutenberg > Experiments. Notes now sit in a margin beside the canvas, the Navigation block's link search covers all content types, galleries gain sorting and duotone tinting, and the Interactivity API gets a new data-wp-html directive. What this means for you: if you run the Gutenberg plugin on a live site, test custom themes and plugins on a staging copy first because of the React 19 change. Real-time collaboration: three sync engines to test

On October 14 the core team introduced three experimental sync engines (yjs-server, DE-RTC and intent-log) in the gutenberg-sync-engines plugin and asked for testers. The team is still assessing which one becomes the foundation for server-side real-time collaboration in WordPress; the post gives no release target. Commenters raised concerns about PHP-based sync on shared hosting. What this means for you: nothing to deploy yet, but hosting requirements will matter once this lands. Our take

For Odoo and AI automation projects, the MCP server in Odoo 20 is the item to watch: connecting AI tools to business data is powerful, but it needs clear permissions and logging. On the WordPress side, we recommend testing Gutenberg updates on staging before they reach production, especially with custom themes.
