A quieter week with two items worth planning around: an open standard for AI agent skills moves to a neutral foundation, and WordPress 7.2 has entered beta. We only include what we could confirm on a primary source page published in the last seven days.

Anthropic donates the Agent Skills standard to the Agentic AI Foundation
On October 22, Anthropic announced that it is donating Agent Skills, an open standard for giving AI agents specialised knowledge and workflows, to the Agentic AI Foundation (AAIF), which operates under the Linux Foundation. The donation includes the Agent Skills name and logo, the GitHub organisation and the agentskills.io domain. Anthropic says more than 70 agent platforms, including ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot and VS Code, have integrated the standard, and that about 1 million skills have been published. A proposed roadmap includes versioned releases, a formal proposal process and security guidance for people who write and install skills. Anthropic states that the standard stays open and vendor-neutral and that you can keep using it without joining the foundation.
What this means for you: if you build AI automations, packaging your know-how as skills is less likely to lock you into a single vendor. The adoption figures are Anthropic's own. Treat third-party skills like any other code you install and review them first. Source: Anthropic – Donating Agent Skills to the Agentic AI Foundation.
Beyond that, we found no further AI announcement relevant to small businesses that we could confirm on a primary source page this week, so we are not padding this section.
Odoo
Quiet week for product news; education partnership in Vietnam
We found no new release announcement on odoo.com's blog this week; the posts there were mainly customer stories and guides. One item with news value: on October 22 Odoo published that Odoo HK Limited and Eastern International University (EIU) in Binh Duong, Vietnam, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on September 30 under the Odoo Education Program. Odoo provides technology access, learning resources and faculty enablement, and students will work with CRM, Accounting, Sales, E-Commerce, Inventory and Project Management. The programme offers free access to Odoo Enterprise for educational institutions.
What this means for you: not a change to the product itself, but a sign that Odoo skills are being taught at universities, which may help when hiring. Source: Odoo – Odoo Education Program partners with EIU.
WordPress
WordPress 7.2 Beta 1 is available for testing
On October 20, the WordPress project released Beta 1 of WordPress 7.2 for testing; it is not meant for production sites. Highlighted changes include responsive design controls, text shadow support, Notes with emoji reactions, client-side image resizing and compression before upload, and a new Secrets API for storing credentials. The scheduled final release date is December 8, 2026.
What this means for you: test the beta on a staging copy, not on your live site, and check that your theme and plugins still work. Source: WordPress.org – WordPress 7.2 Beta 1.
WordPress on the PHP security release: no WordPress update needed
We covered the PHP emergency in detail in our incident report. New this week is the official WordPress position, published on October 21: the PHP project released a security update fixing two critical vulnerabilities, and WordPress states that no WordPress update is required or planned for these issues. Site owners should update PHP, check with their host (who may already be patching and adding firewall rules), and can see their PHP version under Tools > Site Health > Info > Server. The post notes that PHP versions before 8.2 no longer receive security updates.
What this means for you: the fix sits on the server, not in WordPress. Ask your host about the PHP version and patch status. Source: WordPress.org – Critical PHP Security Release.
Our take
For us, the PHP episode is a reminder that server patching and PHP version management are part of running any WordPress site, which is the daily work of Linux administration. On the AI side, open and portable standards such as Agent Skills make it easier to build automations around Odoo and websites without betting on one vendor. As always: test betas on staging first.
